Lady Breast Surgeon in chennai
Mastitis is inflammation, swelling or infection within the breast ducts and glands. It is commonly observed in breastfeeding mothers but can also occur in women who are not breastfeeding and rarely in men as well. It is caused due to blocked ducts that are present behind the nipple, milk congestion, diabetes, bacterial infection, trauma and smoking. The symptoms of breast infection are pain, redness, warmth, swelling, swollen glands under the armpit and at times fever, chills, body aches, and fatigue. Mastitis is diagnosed by clinical breast examination and ultrasound of the breast. Depending on your age and duration of the illness, you may be advised a mammogram. Sometimes, you might be advised ultrasound guided drainage of the infected area to see what type of bacteria is growing within the area. Majority of the time, with aspiration and antibiotics the infection should settle down. Sometimes you may need surgical drainage. If you notice any of the above signs, do not panic and do not delay. Reach out at the earliest for less aggressive treatment.
