Image guided core needle biopsy

The Triple Assessment Breast Treatment is the gold standard method of diagnosing a breast disease, be it cancer or otherwise. It is done not only to diagnose or rule out a cancer, but to also confirm other non cancerous (benign) disease of the breast. The goal of triple assessment aims to provide a quick and simple outpatient approach. Triple assessment involves clinical examination by a healthcare professional, imaging of the breast followed by a image-guided needle biopsy to assess the nature of the disease. It is done in the out-patient department. It does not require any pre-procedure blood tests and does not require the patient to be in fasting. This process of triple assessment is highly sensitivity and any suspicious changes on breast imaging should be subjected to a tissue biopsy, where indicated.
