- a. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast which is taken in two views
- b. Who? - it is recommended for women over the age of 40 years as a part of a master health check or as opportunistic screening. It is also done in those with concerns within their breasts over the age of 40 years.
- - It is not advisable for women under the age of 40 years, particularly as a screening tool. A tomomammogram or MRI of the breast is better accepted in this age group.
- c. When? – In India, all women over the age of 40 years are advised a mammogram once in two years. If you are at a higher risk, you may be advised a yearly mammogram. Remember, you need to continue your self breast examination once a month between your scheduled mammograms.
