Nipple Sparing
In nipple sparing mastectomy, only the breast glands are removed preserving the nipple, areolar and overlying skin. It is done for as a therapeutic procedure to treat those diagnosed with cancer and as a risk reducing procedure. It is commonly followed by reconstruction either with autologous tissues or implants. This type of mastectomy is reserved for women with tumors away from the nipple or areola. The cosmetic outcomes with these procedures are well accepted. The scars are usually hidden below the breast and the shape and form of the breast is well maintained.
